In my Ward, the 25th, Carl Coats is challenging Dorothy Kirner. Challengers have also filed in the 5th & 23rd wards.
If anyone needs to be challenged this election is 7th Ward Alderwomen Phyllis Young. She posed no objection to the demolition of the Century Building for a parking garage. Phyllis – it is time for you to retire from elected office. Withdraw and let someone else run.

No filing for incumbent Irene Smith or redistricted Sharon Tyus in the 1st ward, so maybe the mayoral rumors are true. Also, no one has filed to challenge Joe Roddy in the 17th, so maybe the rumors about Rodney Burchfield’s challenge aren’t so.
People in Ward 17 tell me that Rodney is serious.
If I were him, though, I’d have tried to get my name first on the ballot instead of waiting a few weeks to file.
There’s a rumor that there will be a Green Party challenger in Ward 17, too! (Not me, though–at least not in 2005. I won’t move into Ward 17 until late January.)
