Work Has Stopped on Downtown Parking Garage
Word on the street is that work has come to a halt on the parking garage for the Old Post Office Project. This is the site where the Century Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was razed last year despite pleas from preservationists and downtown residents.
Developer Steve Stogel was seen this week yelling at someone on the site where work has stopped. Could the stoppage somehow be payback for the bad Karma created from tearing down a historic structure and then suing two residents that tried, legally, to question the process?

No, if bad karma worked that way, MANY projects would be halted indefinitely. Bad karma can only cause heat rashes, and sometimes athlete’s foot.
Very interesting.
Interesting site you linked as well. Stunning photos, what a tragedy. . .
Interesting how stuff like this does not make it to the 5pm news!
I walked by the site today and still no work occurring. Somebody must not be getting paid for such a large project to come to a complete standstill. I mean, there are cranes and concrete forms and all kinds of equipment which costs a lot of money just to sit idle per day. Perhaps that house of cards they called “financing” has crumbled. So, not only have we lost a spectacular building, we may have gained nothing but a hole in the ground…
What will be ironic and interesting to watch is if the duration of this current delay significantly outlasts another stopped period. That is, when crews began demolishing the Century’s exterior just barely enough to permanently scar its southeast corner, preceding the judge’s decision not to have a temporary injunction.
Plus, it would be interesting if the delays result in added costs to the developers and lenders of this project abusing tax credits and MDFB subsidies intended for true historic property rehab, not demolition.
Not that these delays could ever rack up costs equal to the ridiculous and excessive punitive damages now sought in the OPO suit against Roger and Marcia.
