Counting

Measuring devices were added to the 1100 block of Washington Ave today. This will give a good count on traffic and determine just how much of a morning or afternoon rush we really have.

What would be interesting would be measuring in the 800 or 900 block of Washington Avenue, where on-street parking has not yet been allowed.

I’ll be interested to know the counts.

At my old job I would set out traffic counters and that counter looks like a basic one. It’s doubtful that the counts will be broken out into hourly periods. However, there are better counters that can provide that information as well as what type of vehicles are driving on the road. Likely it will be there one, two or three days, then the number will be collected and averaged.

[REPLY – Thanks for the info. I may go back to see if I can get a model number off of the unit. Collecting data on an hourly by hourly basis, in each direction, seems like the most basic study that should be done. It seems like we have more traffic on at Saturday night at 7pm than a Thursday at 5pm. – SLP]
