Florida Backing Gambaro in 4th District
“Progressive” Alderwoman Jennifer Florida was overheard strategizing with Laura Slay and Ald. Gregali about getting conservative Derio Gambero elected in the Missouri Senate’s 4th District over rivals Amber Boykins, Yaphett El Amin, Kenneth Jones and Jeff Smith. I’m told Laura Slay is a paid consultant on the Gambaro campaign. Apparently the trio was complaining about the Smith campaign attacking Gambaro on a mailing piece comparing him to George W. Bush.
The 15th is one of the more progressive wards in the city so it is a surprise to me that Florida would be supporting Gambaro over any of the other candidates in the race. The ward has two Democratic organizations, the closed organization where the committee persons endorse a candidate have selected Amber Boykins while the open 15th ward group voted to endorse Jeff Smith.
To my knowledge Florida has not publicly endorsed Gambaro but it seems everyone at Chris’ Pancakes got the message.

And WHY are you surprised Jennifer Florida would back Gambaro?? Or, that Laura Slay would be working for his campaign? Smells like a Republican, looks like a Republican …..
I hope she does endourse Gambaro.
One more issued on the long list of issues for her recall.
Honestly, this could be very good for the recall.
While I’m no fan of Gambaro, I just plain don’t see how Jennifer Florida’s support of him has any bearing on the recall effort. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it is a distraction from the real issues at play. As the rest of us do, she has the right to support and assist (to the full extent of the law) the people she wants to see elected to office.
I sincerely hope that you don’t play this up as a reason for recalling her. If people see enough merit in the REAL issues and there is enough effort put in to gathering signatures the recall petition will be successful. If not, then it’s important to move on and make sure that future projects are approached in a proactive manner so we don’t end up with another drive-thru. There’s still a lot of “opportunity” on South Grand – while she’s publicly stated that doesn’t read this blog, she does know that people across the City are watching what happens in the 15th.
[REPLYAgreed, this is not a reason to recall her. However, I think for many who may be on the fence about signing the recall this may be something that tips them in favor of the recall — seeing that she is getting further and further away from her original outsider and progressive roots. – SLP]
