Century SLAPP Suit Pushed to April 2009
The trial against downtown residents Roger Plackemeier & Marcia Behrendt, both friends of mine, over past efforts to save the historic Century Building had been scheduled to start today. However, according to MO Casenet, the trial has been pushed to April 27, 2009 – over four years after the suit was first filed on April 19, 2005.
I believe the case to be a classic SLAPP suit – a strategic lawsuit against public participation (see wiki entry). In the case Plackemeier & Behrendt are charged with “malicious prosecution.” Presumably the city & state, through agencies, have unlimited funds to pursue these two individuals for years.
The stock market almost crashed, I lost my dream home, my wife’s health problems are not covered by her crappy insurance — and my government is blowing money on this lawsuit?!
Vote the bums out!
Yes. The date is conveniently moved to after the 2009 mayoral election. Remember, Francis Slay is a plaintiff in this case, if I remember right.
The cops are corrupt, the mayor is corrupt, the aldermen are corrupt, three inspectors were indicted a couple of years ago(whatever happened to them anyway?): this City looks just like the Boosh admin. Well, without the war crimes, mass murder, Constitutional crises, etc., etc., etc. Still, our house will be gorgeous when we get through with the exterior work. Too bad I can’t move it and ourselves whole to a city that isn’t eating itself alive.
Sickening.
