Celebrating Blog’s 19th Anniversary

Nineteen year ago I started this blog as a distraction from my father’s heart attack and slow recovery. It was late 2004 and social media & video streaming apps didn’t exist yet — or at least not widely available to the general public. Blogs were the newest means of …

Four Recent Books From Island Press

Book publisher Island Press always impresses me with thoughtful new books written by people working to solve current problems — the subjects are important ones for urbanists and policy makers to be familiar and actively discussing. New Siteman Cancer Center, Update on my Cancer

This post is about two indirectly related topics: the new Siteman Cancer Center building under construction on the Washington University School of Medicine/BJC campus and an update on my stage 4 kidney cancer. Thoughts on the Election

March 7, 2005 Politics/Policy 1 Comment

The last two months have been thrilling for me. On the eve of the election I feel great about the campaign we’ve run and chances of defeating the establishment.

Friends have come to support me by raising money and volunteering countless hours. I’ve met new people also willing to give time and money to see some much needed change in the City of St. Louis. Throughout the Ward I’ve got neighbors resolved to see me elected.

I can tell you, on the night before the election, I feel victorious already. The experience of running for office has been immensely rewarding in so many ways. Most importantly is I know my message is on target and that I can affect positive change.

I also know we are not done yet. We are going to brave the cold on Tuesday and greet voters as they arrive at our three polling places. We have not rested or taken anything or anyone for granted in the last two months and we are not about to start tonight. When the polls close at 7pm Tuesday night we’ll start to rest. But only for an hour…

At 8pm Tuesday night we celebrate an outstanding grassroots campaign. Click here for details.

Particular thanks goes out to Corey Mohn, Susan Newton, Michael Kime, Dan Icolari and Jeffrey Smith for all their hard work and dedication. So many others helped as well – I will thank them each in a post-election entry.
